Second Saturday: Family Art Day was a community outreach program hosted every Second Saturday of every month from 1-3 PM at the LCSC Center for Arts & History. All ages and stages were welcome.
As Exhibit & Programming Coordinator of the LCSC Center for Arts & History for over five years, I oversaw the planning and implementation of many projects, including Second Saturdays, but these events would not have been possible without the many hands and hearts of amazing staff, student and community volunteers.
“Mold Making with Found Objects” on Second Saturday: Family Art Day, was inspired by the work of “Rethink Downtown” artist Rob McKirdie. (March 2019)

Second Saturday: Family Art Day, at the LCSC Center for Arts and History, led by artist Kelsey Grafton, encouraged families to imagine and build their dreams for downtown “Lego Lewiston”.
January’s 47 participants constructed a drive in movie theater, aquarium, zip lines, tree houses, water sports, carousel, gondola ride, a picnic table in an igloo and an ice cream parlor, to name just a few.
All works created are on display at the LCSC Center for Arts & History during the Rethink Downtown Exhibit, from February 1st through March 23rd, 2019.
Legos are on hand throughout the exhibit and on February’s Second Saturday Family Art Day. Come join the fun!
“Rethink Downtown” and the “LEGO Lewiston” project are sponsored in part by a National Endowment for the Arts “Our Town” grant obtained by Beautiful Downtown Lewiston Revitalization Corp.
“Rethink Downtown” exhibit is part of the Lewiston Downtown Master Plan, funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts "Our Town" grant secured by Beautiful Downtown Lewiston Revitalization Corp.
The "Rethink Downtown" exhibit will be at the Center from February 1 through March 23, 2019. This exhibit is intended to prompt community members to rethink their perceptions of downtown Lewiston.
“Lego Lewiston,” developed under the guidance of artist Kelsey Grafton, is a three-dimensional interpretation of the downtown area that encourages patrons and families to imagine different creative modes of pedestrian transportation on the existing rails and other additions to the landscape, including a gondola ride, splash pad and performance venue.
Downtown Building and Business Owners were called to show their community pride by constructing their building for the "Lego Lewiston" installation.

40” wide, 80’ long overdue letter to the Walt Disney Company composed by Kelsey Grafton, penned by Susan Pettit, and signed by the citizens of the Lewis-Clark Valley.
“Rethink Downtown” exhibit, February 1 through March 23, 2019, at the Lewis-Clark State College Center for Arts & History.
Dear The Walt Disney Company,
It has long been the lore in the Lewis-Clark Valley that Mr. Walt Disney would one day honor his wife, Mrs. Lillian Marie Disney, with a theme park near her hometown.
Many years have passed since this “promise” was made and we, the citizens of the Lewis-Clark Valley, have had some time to think about it.
Might we suggest starting with a Gondola Lift?
Sincerely,
The undersigned citizens of the Lewis-Clark Valley
